1. When is the right time to move to a senior community?

The best time to make the move to a senior community is before you or your loved one has something happen that ultimately forces you to make the move to a senior community. Doing research and starting to think about community options before the need arises can help avoid having to make a move because of a crisis situation. Once you begin learning more about the senior community lifestyle and services, take a tour and experience the atmosphere and meet the residents and staff, you’ll realize that there are many wonderful advantages to living in a senior community.

2. What if I/my parent(s) have a home to sell?

We’re here to help you navigate that road as smoothly as possible. We work with local real estate agents, referral sources, moving companies, estate planners, etc., who may be able to assist you in selling your home and answering your questions and concerns about the sale of your home.

3. What services are included in the rent?

Most of our managed Communities (independent living, assisted living, and memory care) include a wide variety of services in the base rent including meals, weekly housekeeping, activity programs, scheduled transportation and utilities such as electricity, water, and garbage. 4. Does Senior Services of America offer hospice services?

Our goal is to allow our residents to remain in their community home. We work closely with hospice agencies in each locality so that we can ensure the appropriate hospice services will be available for our community residents within the scope of our state regulations.

5. How are Senior Services of America communities different from other senior communities?

We are keenly aware that the communities are, first and foremost, the places our residents call home. Our goal is to make sure our “work” is centered around the best customer service and care we provide for our residents in their homes each and every day. Many of our communities offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care all in one location to help ease the transition through each stage of aging.

6. How do I know which level of care my loved one needs?

Our Director of Wellness meets with each prospective resident to identify and determine their individual abilities and preferences. Once the Director has met with the prospective resident and/or his or her family, the Director will develop an assessment plan that is designed to accommodate and meet the resident’s needs while encouraging as much independence as possible.

7. What types of services does Senior Services of America offer?

Senior Services of America communities offer a wide range of services and amenities. These include: housekeeping, laundry service, daily meal options, assistance with activities of daily living, pharmacy ordering and distribution, incontinence program, fitness programs, concierge service, on-site therapy in some communities and much more.

8. Which services are optional services?

In addition to the basic services provided to all of our residents, assisted living provides many optional services designed to accommodate individual needs. Assistance with bathing, dressing, medication assistance, escorts to activities and dining, and incontinence assistance are just a few of the daily living services we can assist residents with.

9. What types of activities are offered at Senior Services of America communities?

Our communities offer a wide array of daily activities-both on-site events and off-site excursions-for the interest, entertainment and well-being of our residents. The monthly schedule of activities may include arts and craft projects, outings to theater productions or movies, sporting events, restaurants, board and card games, religious programs, and much more.

10. What is Respite Care?

Respite care is a short-term stay. Respite is generally a minimum of a 5-day stay at the community while a resident’s loved one or family goes out of town or may need a break from being a full-time caregiver to a loved one. Short-term stays are also a great way for residents to get the extra care and help needed while recovering from surgery or illness.

11. What is Memory/Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care?

Memory care is for those individuals that have memory loss or memory impairment (mild/moderate cognitive impairment) who also need assistance with activities of daily living. Just as with our independent and assisted living residents, we prepare a full schedule of activities appropriate to our memory care residents’ physical abilities and awareness.

12. What is Independent Living?

Independent living is for active individuals who do not need assistance with personal care. Residents are generally able to make their own meals, do their housekeeping and laundry, and come and go from the community independently. Most residents are interested in the social benefits of a senior living community. Residents in independent living may also elect to have the senior community take care of their meals, housekeeping and laundry.

13. What is Assisted Living?

Assisted living provides assistance with the activities of daily living and the services vary depending on each resident’s individual needs and wishes. Some of the services offered may include help with bathing or dressing, medication reminders, medication assistance, incontinence program, escorts to meals and activities, transportation services, housekeeping, personal laundry and meal preparation.

14. Are transportation services available?

Senior Services of America communities offer courtesy transportation for all our residents to activities within the local area. Special transportation services may be scheduled at an additional cost.

15. How do we establish care charges?

Our Executive Director, in conjunction with our Director of Wellness (Nurse) will be able to determine the monthly cost of your care plan after completing an assessment and learning more about your unique needs, your specific requests, lifestyle and routine. Sample questions asked during the assessment may include:

  • What types of medications are you currently taking? How often do you take them?
  • When do you typically wake up?
  • When do you like to get dressed? Do you need help getting dressed?
  • How often do you prefer to shower or bathe?
  • What is your daily routine?
  • How do you like to spend your time?
  • What types of services would you like to receive?
  • Who do you call for help now?
  • What are some the daily tasks that may be difficult for you?
  • What concerns do you have?

This process is designed so our residents receive and pay only for the care specific to their individual needs, routine, requests and services.
